oh la la - New Books From France Are In

Just got a new shipment of French Graphic Novels (BD) and Artbooks too! Now some folks protest to having a graphic novel in another language, but for me - it makes me feel like I just went on vacation bringing back all these cool foreign books. Besides - most of the world is not in English, and anyone that proclaims it must be in English is missing out on the best the world has to offer. For those of you wondering - I can't read French either -but boy is my motivation to learn ever so high after getting some of these new gems.

There are many seriously terrific new books to check out - cartoony, serious as well as those in between.

One of these books is the awesome new Melange by Dean Yeagle.

For those of you that know us here at the Labyrinth - you know that we are huge fans of Dean Yeagle. Dean has worked as an animator and illustrator for more than 40 years. He's the original creator of the Honey Nut Cheerio's bee. In recent years he's done a lot of work for playboy. His work is always tasteful -but more importantly his drawings have a tremendous appeal and liveliness that's truly remarkable. In fact, we love Dean's work so much - we commissioned two exclusive sketchbooks over the years.

Now we are excited to be able to bring you this awesome new Dean Yeagle Artbook from Paris. Its a gorgeous full colour hardcover that covers Dean's carrear in Animation, Character Design and his Playboy cartoons -all in one place for the very first time. vinyl graffiti extended one last time

Hi Folks,

Since Dragon Sketches was pushed back, that means the next show (Vinyl Graffiti won't be until January). This allowes us to extend the deadline one last time for anyone interested in joining up.

Please email me with a jpeg of the 'before' image of the record cover -and then the final piece won't be due until the 1st week of January.

Rules again:
1. Do any illustration you want on an old record cover (the cardboard covers that you find th old large black records in). As long as its interesting and well done -we are interested in seeing it.
2. make sure some part of the cover is still showing. It can be as little as some text or an entire image.
3. Email me to let me know you're working on it -by sending in the 'before' jpeg.
4. Use any medium you want: paint, marker, etc..
5. Have Fun -otherwise there's no point.

VINYL GRAFFITI ARTISTS - deadline extended

we are extending the deadline for the Vinyl Graffiti Show to the end of the month -but we need you to send in the 'before' image of the album cover you are going to use. that is -before you do any work on it. simply email me the before image to join the show.

I got to tell you guys that we have gotten quite a few outstanding entries already. Harvey Chan dropped off the first one tonight -and it's very impressive, but i got to tell you -some of the other pieces we got are equally gorgeous. I don't want to give away the finished pieces, but I thought it would be fun to post a handful of the before images here.

Please pass the word out - to anyone you feel might be interested in joining the show.

btw: if you haven't seen Bee Movie and are fans of Jerry Seinfeld - go see it. It's not your typical bug movie. It's essentially what Jerry would be like if he was a Bee. The movie has a lot of very creative bits in it, including terrific character pieces, awesome locations and a silly but original and unexpected story line. It starts out like Ants or Bugs Life, but then takes a turn you don't see in every other bug movie. The book is in stock too - if you wanted to take a look at it.
