Svetlana Chmakova's - Animated Series

Hey Folks - Just read on ICV2 that Svetlana (Dramacon) Chmakova has created a new animated series that will be on teletoon in 2009. We've known Svetlana for many years now and are very excited to hear the great news. Svetlana will also be starting her new series in August's Yen Press Anthology. Way to go Svetlana! FYI - Svetlana is a graduate of Sheridan college and lives here in Ontario!

According to ICV2:

My Life Me, a new animated series created by Svetlana Chmakova of Tokyopop’s Dramacon and animation vets JC Little and Cindy Filipenko, is going into production for an eventual fall 2009 release. Fifty-two 11-minute episodes are slated, along with 26 original shorts for mobile and VoD platforms. The target audience is kids 8-12.

The show will be produced using digital animation, and will use manga aesthetics, including black and white comic panels that drop behind the characters to express their suppressed feelings on screen. A planned Website will also use manga elements, including the ability for users to create their own manga using how-to-draw tutorials or actual elements from the series.

The comedy storyline concerns four lead characters trying to make sense of tween life.

Merchandise, including publishing, accessories, gifts, stationery, and apparel are planned.

TV-Loonland and CarpeDiem Film & TV are producing, backed by Canadian broadcaster Teletoon Canada and French broadcasters France 2 and Canal J.

NICOLAS MARLET IS KUNG FU PANDA

oK. So I exagerate a bit with the title -but the new Art of Kung Fu Panda has so many pages by this talented guy -it could almost be called the Art of Nicolas Marlet's Kung Fu Panda. If you can't tell so far- I am a huge fan. In fact, all the folks who worked on this film seem to have done a brilliant job. At least artistically speaking. I haven't seen the film, but the art/look of the film is to die for. The book is also a keeper and well worth owning. In stock now. Check it out for yourselves.

So this past weekend was Anime North. For those that went - you know how crazy it was. For those that didn't; keep it in mind for next year.

For the first time since 2000, I managed to sneak away from my booth for a few minutes to visit the awesome artist alley room. It's unlike any artist alley I have ever seen at a comic-con. Probably because this was not a comic-con. ha ha. At any rate, I met a lot of talented young artists. I will try and profile some of them soon. The first one that I wanted to mention was the incredible Camilla D'Errico. Her prints, mini-sketchbooks and postcard books made my brain explode. As a result, we hope to start carrying some of these in the store very shortly. Camilla is also the artist on the awesome comic Nightmares and Fairy Tales from Slave Labor Graphics (home to Johnny the Homicidal Maniac and Lenore.)
