Virtual filmaking is a concept that's not new to those folks involved in machinima, a hobby of using character models, sets, environment and engines in video games to create short films and comedy. However, one aspiring filmaker has gone and made a serious nearly 2 hour film entirely in the engine of Grand Theft Auto IV. While the dialogue and voice acting are pretty amateur, the direction, camera work, music and overall story are quite outstanding! You can see the entire film for yourself in the video embedded below. A fair warning though, the movie is meant for mature audiences as it deals with violence and nudity and locales that those who're familiar with the GTAIV game know quite well. The fact that the movie came out as well as it did is a testament to the great work and detail put into the world of Liberty City by Rockstar Games.

Mr. Plinkett reviews the Star Wars Prequels!
Recommended to all aspiring film makers and writers are the following hours and hours-long in depth reviews and criticisms of the most heated opinionated film trilogies of our time, that of Star Wars Eps. 1-3. Mr. Plinkett, a creation of RedLetterMedia, is a crazy psychopathic man, whose passionate hatred for his ex-wife and love of pizza rolls is only matched by his highly insightful and detailed knowledge on what makes good films good films, in the context of plot, characters, consistency, and the general consumer audience. You'll likely learn a lot more from these in a more clear and entertaining fashion than you would from a college course. So providing you have actually seen the Star Wars prequels, you will certainly appreciate much of what you learn from these, or perhaps you'll simply have a good time enjoying the reviews which are probably far more entertaining than the actual films themselves... So check out the links below, and on the left side of the site you'll also find other reviews from another famous franchise, 'Star Trek' and even one on James Cameron's Avatar!
If anyone prefers Youtube, you can find the above videos in parts on their account page in the right scroll box here.

Evangelion 2.0 coming to Cineplex Odeon!
If you happened to go to any Cineplex Odeon theatres recently, you may have spotted trailers for 'Evangelion 2.0' playing on the lobby's screens! The anime film is getting a big push from Funimation and Cineplex Odeon, especially in Canada where Cineplex is pushing to have a one day only showing of the film in theatres across Canada. They are aiming to get it out in as many theatres as possible! But given that it's 1 day only, means you're gonna have to pre-order tickets. The showing is on January 20th, 2011 in Canada, currently slated for a 7pm showing. To clarify, the film is Evangelion 2.0, the remake/re-imagined second film in the 'Renewal of Evangelion' project. It'll be the dubbed version.
