Japanese art website Pixiv is holding a contest where users can submit fan illustrations based on any of Makoto Shinkai's works in honor of his upcoming film 'Children who chase lost voices from deep below.' Shinkai's past works are 'Voices of a Distant Star', 'The Place promised in our Early Days,' and '5cm/sec.' English seaking fans abroad are also invited to participate. Toronto Artist Matthew Brown's 'Fear Itself'

Matthew Brown was born in Toronto, Canada in 1972 and studied Theatre at Concordia University in Montreal for from 1991 to 1994. During that time Gogo Guy published his mini-comic book Fear Itself.

Varanasi is his favourite place, a holy city on the bank of the Ganges River. At the same time it is noisy, dirty, smelly, hot and chaotic, it is also beautiful and twangs your inner consciousness.

Poopsie the Penguin is a cartoon character he created in 1989. He is featured in a 202-page comic retrospective called Fear Itself published by Editions TRIP and launched at the TCAF (Toronto Comic Arts Festival) on May 7 and 8, 2011.

'Silent Hill: Downpour' Teaser

In honor of a Facebook milestone, the new developers behind the next Silent Hill game have released a short video teasing new footage from the upcoming E3 demo build of the game.



The new film also finished principal photography yesterday. Look for lots of news coming up towards the beginning of E3.

Hatsune Miku featured in US Toyota commercial

There's not much to it aside from a common theme of 'big dreams' but it looks like the virtual idol is going places...


Unfortunately in a bit of a controversy for fans of Miku, the Toyota webpage instead opted to use a more 'American' art style to illustrate Miku who doesn't appear too feminine.

And to the ire of some, the pose rips off an illustration of Miku by Tony Taka that could've been used instead.

Atlus Catherine artbook offer

Here's a heads up for fans of Persona and its character artist Shingenori Soejima. The Persona Team's latest game, and their first one on the HD consoles 'Catherine' will be releasing in North America in a couple of months by Atlus. There will be a deluxe edition with extras like a T-shirt and pillowcase and underwear, and the regular barebones retail game. North America will also get a choice between the original Japanese boxarts or a more conservative version that's less racy, and of course the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions are different. Anyway, if you pre-order either the deluxe of regular version of the game from certain videogame retail stores, you will get the CD soundtrack for the game along with an 'Art of Catherine' artbook by Soejima!
