Anime/J-Rave Party!

Seo Entertainment is a new group of recent graduates from universities/colleges in Toronto that are engaged in music production such as DJ-ing, and party planning. They are very pleased to announce an upcoming Anime/J-Rave Party at the University of Toronto Hart House on Friday Feb 18th, 2011. Various anime clubs from different universities such as UofT St.George, UofT Scarborough, York and Ryerson are joining this event which includes the UofT Exchange Student Office's participation. The event is a social gathering event plus dance party. Many anime OP/EDs, JPOP and KPOP will be remixed and played during the party. Any students that are anime/manga lovers ought to go and meet new people while enjoying some refreshments and music!

The game originally planned as a cell phone game but then moved to PSP, and also formerly known as 'Final Fantasy Agito XIII' is now 'Final Fantasy - Type 0.' Whatever it is and will be, you can now watch the latest trailer for it below:

Silent Hill: Downpour - Concept Art contest!

KONAMI today launched the "Be Buried in Silent Hill!" promotion on Facebook giving fans the opportunity to submit concept art of their own original spine-chilling burial sculpture for the possibility of being included in the graveyard of the latest installment of the Silent Hill franchise, Silent Hill: Downpour. Since this is a new chapter in the Silent Hill saga, sculptures must be original works and not based off of existing characters or creature designs (ex. no Pyramid Head or Harry Mason). The most ideal submissions will be hellishly original designs players would want to see in Silent Hill: Downpour. KONAMI will hand-select the top six submissions and post for public voting on Silent Hill's Facebook page on February 10, 2011, and will conclude on February 16, 2011 when the top three contenders will be revealed.

Toy Story 3 has been nominated for adapted screenplay writing, sound editing, and Best Picture!

Tangled has a nomination for best original song.

Iron Man 2 has been nominated for visual FX.

Tim Burton's 'Alice in Wonderland' has been nominated for visual FX, art design and costume design.

And on an interesting note, Banksy's film 'Exit through the Gift Shop' has been nominated for Best Documentary!

Notable absences are 'TRON: Legacy' missing from VFX but nominated for sound editing; and sadly Mamoru Hosoda's 'Summer Wars' which was in the running to be nominated for best animated film is sadly nowhere to be seen... This is likely because due to not enough films being submitted, the nominee list was reduced to only 3 selections instead of a potential 5.

There is an exhibit of Yoji Shinkawa's work this month in midtown Tokyo featureing the man's art and sculptures! Prints are also being sold through Konami. Shinkawa also did some artwork live in front of an audience, you can check out how he does it in the video below, it's really cool! Anoymous superhero donors spur interest in manga character

Here's an intriguing story. Some well intentioned people using the alias of a manga character 'Tiger Mask' have been making anonymous donations of items and money to children in welfare programs around Japan. This phenomena has also spurred interest in the original manga character and as an unintentional result, sales and demand for the comic have been increasing!
