toronto graffiti art book.

A new book just came out about Toronto Graffiti. Not only does it have a ton of photos, but it features in depth interviews with the artists, examining their experiences and the psychology behind their works. The author/editor/person behind the book - Yvette Farkas has taken this up as a personal project born out of the love for the artform and it really shows.
For the moment, this massive book ( it's roughly 600 pages or so) is limited to just 100 copies. We hope to have a few in shop shortly to sell and show off. The white cover is also a nice touch, as it screems out for a little graffiti of it's own.
In the mean time, check out images and page views on the website www.torontograffiti.ca

Are Princess movies coming to an end at Disney?
The LA Times had a front page story yesterday reporting Disney Animation is closing the book on fairy tales, saying:
"…the curtain is falling on “princess movies,” which have been a part of Disney Animation’s heritage since the 1937 debut of its first feature film, “Snow White.” The studio’s Wednesday release of “Tangled,” a contemporary retelling of the Rapunzel story, will be the last fairy tale produced by Disney’s animation group for the foreseeable future.
“Films and genres do run a course,” said Pixar Animation Studios chief Ed Catmull, who along with director John Lasseter oversees Disney Animation. “They may come back later because someone has a fresh take on it … but we don’t have any other musicals or fairy tales lined up.” Indeed, Catmull and Lasseter killed two other fairy tale movies that had been in development, “The Snow Queen” and “Jack and the Beanstalk.” "

Dan Santat on Compostion

Excellent lesson on composition from children's book illustrator Dan Santat. I recently picked up a copy of his awesome book 'OH NO!' and was turned on to his great art. Next I found his blog, which is full of cool stuff including this great lesson on composition. You can find it here.
There's also these great trailers for the book:
and
and finally, this VIDEO PORTFOLIO OF Dan's work:
Hatsune Miku in concert!
Here's some footage of virtual pop idol Hatsune Miku doing a 'live' concert for fans! Miku's singing is generated from technology called VOCALOID by Yahama, where composers can insert lyrics and tune them high and low according to the notes and have the computer sing for you! The concerts use 3D animated characters for projected images onto mesh screens to give the appearance of the character dancing and singing on stage. I personally can't wait for a Sharon Apple concert someday in the future!

Attraction - Anti-smoking anime
France's 'National Institute for Preventive and Health education' have commissioned Studio 4C to create an animated short that would become part of an interactive flash website where users can interact with the film and in a stylish and flashy way learn about the dangers of smoking. Koji Morimoto is the director on the project. When the interactive short launches it'll be available in Japanese and French audio with the option for English subtitles. You can visit the main site here to see more, though it's in French. To learn a bit more, see this story. A French manga can also be found here.

The long awaited first look at in-game footage from Rockstar's L.A. Noire is finally available in a new trailer. This game features what is likely to be the most advanced and convincing facial motion capture to date. It's not there simply to make the game look better, but it will play an important part in the gameplay as well where you are a 1940s detective who has to interrogate people and suspects and watch their facial expressions to gauge whether they are lying or telling the truth. You can learn more about the MotionScan system used for this game here. The trailer can be viewed below.
