Guillermo del Toro Steps Down From THE HOBBIT

Some bad news everyone... It seems that due to scheduling conflicts and prior commitments, director Guillermo del Toro will no longer be able to work on the 2 Hobbit film adaptations as it's director, but he will still be co-writing the script. You can read more about it here. Along with a small bit on some things he managed to finish in pre-production here.

This is too bad as fans were greatly anticipating seeing what he would do with the Lord of the Rings universe. A new director has not been announced. Peter Jackson is still producing these films, and it's possible that he may pick up the reigns himself. Guess we'll have to wait and see where it goes from here...

In the meantime, fans of The Lord of the Rings can enquire at our store about the books as well as artbooks from the Trilogy of films.

So we told you last week that this book is coming in this week. Well it's in and it will knock your socks off. If you are a fan of the show, this book is a real powerhouse.

Tales of Earthsea to finally be released in North America

"Disney has just announced that it will theatrically release Goro Miyazaki’s Tales from Earthsea (Gedo Senki) in the US on August 13th under its Touchstone Pictures banner.

Hayao Miyazaki’s son, Goro directed this adaptation of Ursula K. Le Guin’s Earthsea novels in 2006. The film was held up from US distribution due to an existing non-compete arrangement with Sci-Fi Channel, over their live action mini-series based on the same material. The voice cast in Disney’s dub includes Timothy Dalton, Willem Dafoe, Cheech Marin and Mariska Hargitay."

Some bad news folks. DC Comics is shutting down their CMX Manga line due to declining manga sales. Books scheduled for next month will still be released, and details about other unfinished titles are still being looked into. The popular 'Megatokyo' will still be published, but under DC Comics' brand.

Many vying for the rights to a Gantz live-action remake

The Cinema Today website reported on Friday that the producers of the two upcoming live-action Gantz films have already received inquiries about remake rights from the United States and the United Kingdom. The two Gantz films, which adapt Hiroya Oku's Gantz science-fiction action manga, will not open until the beginning of next year.

According to Cinema Today, 19 companies from the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and other Western countries have also offered to distribute the two Japanese films themselves. 26 companies from South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and other countries and regions in Asia have made inquiries as well.

Principal photography has been completed for the two films, and post-production has begun. The first film is slated to be completed by November, and it will open in Japan at the beginning of 2011. The second film will open next spring.

A new Code Geass anime is coming, and while this teaser doesn't show very much, maybe it'll be enough to get those fans excited. This is probably an alternative reality Code Geass story that is not directly related to the previous show...

No more 'Heroes' , that is... NBC cancels 'Heroes'

Due to plummeting Ratings, NBC has cancelled their once hit TV Show 'Heroes', not to be confused with the videogame 'No more Heroes'.

"NBC ended months of speculation this afternoon by announcing the cancellation of Heroes after four seasons.

Although the fate of the superhero drama seemed sealed by plummeting ratings — less than 5 million viewers tuned in for February’s Season 4 finale, down from about 17 million in Season 2 — there was an outside chance the show could be brought back for a 13-episode wrap-up or a two- or four-hour movie. But The Live Feed reports that the ratings decline, combined with high production costs and the number of hour-long shows on the network’s fall schedule, dashed the possibility of a return."

It's too bad things turned out this way, but hopefully there'll be something else like it!

Metal Gear Solid is now Tactical Espionage Operations!

One of the latest trailers for MGS: Peace Walker has changed its subtitle to reflect the new additioins to the gameplay where you'll be doing more than just solitary and 4 player missions, and will have an entire military force at your disposal!



The PSP game is doing well in Japan and will release in north America next month. There is a world tour going on to promote the game, but sadly, Canada has been left off the list... Art of Avatar the Last Airbender -the Cartoon!

Finally arriving in store - next week.
The art of one of the best animated series ever, Avatar the last airbender.
While we haven't seen it yet, we trust that this will be a real keeper!

Cat Sh*# One Trailer

North American animation is reknowned for it's movies featuring talking antrophomorphic animals. Well Japan has also decided to take a stab at it in a much more unusual way. War films in Japan don't tend to seel well to Japanese audiences who are still very much living under the post war consequences and feelings of World War II. Instead Japanese filmmakers and animators usually use allegory and fantasy to tell people about war and current conflicts around the world. This is apparently the attempt behind the film Cat Sh*t One. A serious drama of war and conflict told using cute fuzzy animals. Sort of like Watership Down or even Maus... The animals may reflect their characters, in this case, the bunnies are puns on U.S.A. G.I.s or Usagis which is the Japanese word for rabbit. And the camels are obvious references to Middle Eastern enemies. Whether this seems good or ridiculous to you, it's certainly something that has to be seen to be believed!
