Evangelion 2.22 Blu-ray Trailer

The 2nd Eva remake/reimagining movie is preparing to release on blu-ray in Japan and it will have new scenes and be of better quality than the theaterical cut. The first film has already been released in North America and if you want my advice, either get the 2nd DVD version with the better quality, or just get the blu-ray version as that's always the best with all the extras! Anyway, here's the trailer:

As a bit of a public service, I'd like to call attention to a special presentation by chef Jamie Oliver to an audience explaining the need to teach themselves and their children about food and learning to cook. A lot of you may be college or university students on campus and this sort of thing will be eye opening to you and make you think about your health!

Light Stage working on Gaiking CG Anime!

"Toei Animation has announced that Light Stage, one of the production tools used on the computer graphics for James Cameron's Avatar film, was used for an all-new pilot for a remake of Toei's Gaiking anime series. Light Stage developer Jules Urbach produced the pilot in North America. The pilot will be revealed for the first time at this week's Tokyo International Anime Fair." - Anime News Network.

3-D Popeye in 3-D

"Sony is bringing an all-CGI "Popeye" to the bigscreen, with the iconic sailor man's muscles set to pop in 3D.
Avi Arad, who teamed with Sony to turn Spider-Man into a powerhouse franchise, is producing. Scribe Mike Jones is in negotiations to adapt."

Looks like studios are digging deep into the vaults to try and grab iconic characters to take advantage of the rush for stereoscopic 3-D films!

WB negotiating for Bleach.

"The Hollywood Reporter newspaper's Heat Vision blog reports that the American film studio Warner Brothers "is in the process of securing the movie rights to" Tite Kubo's Bleach supernatural action manga series. Director Peter Segal (Get Smart, The Longest Yard, Anger Management) is lining himself up to produce, but not direct. The manga's North American publisher Viz Media and Segal's Callahan Filmworks partner Michael Ewing would also produce the proposed project."

Given the characters of Bleach, this is one that could work out with a multicultural cast and even if they did tone down some of the Japanese aesthetics. But will this be good, or will it be 'Dragonball: Evolution' all over again? Warner Brothers has certainly taken a big interest and is securing the rights to a lot of manga and anime for live-action adaptations. Hopefully they'll do something good with all of it! They did do an amazing job on Speed Racer and I highly recommend that film! You can read more about this story here.

'Nujabes' passes away...

Some sad news to report today. Following a traffic accident, hip hop composer Jun 'Nujabes' Seba has passed away in hospital. Many of you may know his work from the background music and opening and closing themes from the anime 'Samurai Champloo.' It just so happens that I was listening to a lot of his music from the show while working on a project this very week!

The Illusionist

A beautiful new foreign animated film is being talked about called 'The Illusionist' about a magician who's having a hard time with his job when he meets a young girl who is convinced he can do real magic. While the language of this trailer is in Russian, it is actually a British and French collaboration. The film is directed by Sylvain Chomet, who did the acclaimed 'Les Triplettes de Belleville.'

It is the perfect entry level intensive for anyone interested in working in comics.

Ty has spent years teaching and perfecting this popular workshop and its been packed in previous incarnations. From muscle bristling superheroes, to moody underground hipster webcomics, this class will teach you why you want to make comic art, and how to make it better. While an ability to draw is helpful, it is not necessary.

Kidding Around: Writing Comics for Younger Readers
Instructor: Sam Agro

An in depth study of the fundamentals of writing comics and animation for kids from 5 to 15. Students will explore writing for established commercial properties and developing characters and stories of their own. The course will include the basics of story structure, kid relevance, humor, idea pitching and how to work effectively with an artist. Through analyzing examples of kids comics and animation, and through practical writing assignments, students will beef up their writing muscles and solidify their understanding of the form.

Sam Agro began his career in 1983, working as a storyboard artist in the animation industry producing hundreds of storyboards for shows like Ewoks and Droids, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and The Ripping Friends. Sam has written for TVO’s Polka Dot Shorts, the animated segments of Elliot Moose is on the Loose and many, many scripts for DC’s Looney Tunes and Block Party comics. Sam regularly performs improv and sketch comedy with the groups The Wrecking Crew and The Canadian Space Opera Company.

From thumbnail layouts to finished pencils, this course teaches everything you need to know about the unique process of telling stories with pictures. It contains the condensed art components from Ty’s ever popular Comic Book Bootcamp Levels I AND 2. Learn to THINK like a comic artist as well as how to CREATE like one. Essential learning for future Marvel Zombies, Indy Artists or Webcomic creators. While a basic drawing skill is helpful, it is not necessary.
